Bourne Abbey Church

Youth at Bourne Abbey

Fr Chris with some of our young peopleWorship

At the Abbey, we belief that it is important in worship to try to engage all ages.  We are fortunate to be able to offer different styles of worship from rich ceremonial to very informal word-pictures and music.  With this in mind, during school term we hold a Family Service on the last Sunday of each month.  Although focused primarily on the younger end of the age spectrum, this Service is enjoyed by all ages.  In Baptism preparation, Fr. Chris encourages parents to consider bringing their child to the Service from the age of about three upwards.  The worship is constructed so that he hopes that a child will go home with at least one thing to remember.  But he’s even happier if they go out with that one thing AND a smile on their faces, because he knows that if they do, they will probably ask to come back next month, too!

Youngbourne'sYoungbourne’s Group

We’re the Youngbournes, and we meet in the Church Hall during school term time.  We have a dedicated ‘Godly Play’ area which is home to an imaginative and creative form of engaging in the stories of the gospel.  We also use the traditional style of Sunday School where children are invited to share in the stories of Jesus.  We always finish in time to come into Church so that we can receive a blessing at the altar rail, and sometimes there is an opportunity to explain to the congregation what we have been doing after the Communion.  Membership of the group tends to be from age of rising four years through to about 11.  Some members enjoy it so much, that they continue after Confirmation as helpers!

Parent and Toddler’s Group

Welcome to the Mother’s and Toddler’s Group.  We meet on Wednesday mornings in the Church Hall during term time.  Playing, meeting friends, doing crafty-type activities, singing, and scoffing as many biscuits as we can get our hands on are all part of the fun – and that’s just the adults!  Actually, we allow our parents to have fun because we know we can stay longer if they are.  Anyway, we do all the things that they do – except talk about boring things like parents love to do.  So come and join us.  It’s free and open to all.
