Worship at Bourne Abbey
Worship at Bourne Abbey is a rich tapestry of colour, sounds and experiences where the principal act of worship is the Eucharist.
At 8am there is a said Eucharist using a more traditional form of words; it is consequently a more reflective style of worship.
The 10am is a Sung Eucharist with a robed choir using modern language as we follow the life of Jesus throughout the year. On Saints' and Festival Days, we use incense to emphasize the dignity and celebratory aspect of worship.
We also believe in seeking to engage the full spectrum of ages in our community; so additionally, we offer an informal style of worship on designated Sundays . Children are welcome to all the worship taking place at the Abbey. There is a children's activity area in the Church, where families are often to be found engaging informally with the Church's worship.
Youth at Bourne Abbey
At the Abbey, we belief that it is important in worship to try to engage all ages. We are fortunate to be able to offer different styles of worship from rich ceremonial to very informal word: pictures and music.
With this in mind, during school term we hold a Family Service on the last Sunday of each month. Although focused primarily on the younger end of the age spectrum, this Service is enjoyed by all ages. The worship is constructed so that he hopes that a child will go home with at least one thing to remember. But he’s even happier if they go out with that one thing AND a smile on their faces, because he knows that if they do, they will probably ask to come back next month, too!
Choir & Music at Bourne Abbey
Music is an essential part of worship at the Abbey Church. We have a robed choir with currently about 30 members.
The Choir’s main responsibility is to support the singing of hymns, lead the singing of the Mass setting, lead Responsorial Psalms during Advent and Lent, and to provide motets, anthems, and plainsong during the Communion.
