Bourne Abbey Church

Social Committee

The Social Committee was formed in 1974 to further the social side of the Abbey Church, as a sub-committee of the PCC.

In past years the committee has organised many events with social as well as financial rewards.

In 2015 the committee handed over a staggering £5,500 to the PCC.

Events organised in the past have organised quiz nights, St George's Day coffee morning, harvest lunch, meet the artists and Christmas Fayre.

The committee also runs a 59 Club. Thanks go to Peter Slowey for his work administering the 49 Club (which became the 59 Club in October 2015 when the National Lottery increased the number of balls in its Saturday draw). At the moment Merryn Woodland collects monies and honorary secretary Ann Northen who makes sure the lucky receipient gets £30 and £29 goes to church funds.

Thanks are also due to Judy Smith and her band of helpers for her monthly whist drives which average £130 per month.

Our thanks go to all members of this very active committee.

Thank you to all who supported our last two events. The St George's Day coffee morning on April 23, which raised £310, and the Queen's 90th Birthday party on Saturday, May 14 (click on 'More social events' below for pictures and more details).

Forthcoming event: Christmas Fayre, December 3, in the Abbey Church Hall 10am – midday. Stalls to include Christmas Hamper raffle, Chocolate Tombola, Gifts, Cards, Plants.  Beverages and Mince Pies £1.
