The Martha Group make their selves responsible for the cleaning and care of the contents and interior of the Abbey Church.
A small dedicated band vacuum and dust regularly on a Friday morning at 9.15a.m. Another group clean the brass on a monthly basis.
About three times a year, when the cobwebs and the bat activity increase we have a “Big Clean” when all are welcome. The members of the congregation are joined by other parishioners who take pride in caring for this ancient building.
If you would like to join the group please contact Merryn Woodland, the Churchwarden. No experience is necessary but an ability to join in and laugh is especially welcome.
If you have wondered the origins of the group's name, look no further than Luke 10:38-42.
Now as Jesus and his disciples went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was saying.
But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me'.
But the Lord answered her, 'Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.'
